I recall the first time

that I really watched my thoughts

I saw who I thought I was

saw who I was not

sitting cross-legged on the ground

I watched them all float by

and somewhere in that endless stream

I opened up my eye

 

and I realized

the thoughts I had weren't me

they just took all my attention

and my time and energy

I had to try to shut it down

I had to be free

I had to end the addiction

had to stop the C.T.D.

not only were my thoughts not me

most weren't even mine

just a bunch of bad ideas

I'd collected over time

worries 'bout the future

and guilt about the past

I had to find my way back home

to here and now at last

 

a virus in your system

the thought loop never ends

it runs over and over

and over again

it's depression and anxiety

and every disease

gotta to end the addiction

gotta to stop the C.T.D.
